چکیده

In this paper we propose a technique to incorporate contextual information into object classification. In the real world there are cases where the identity of an object is ambiguous due to the noise in the measurements based on which the classification should be made. It is helpful to reduce the ambiguity by utilizing extra information referred to as context, which in our case is the identities of the accompanying objects. This technique is applied to white blood cell classification. Comparisons are made against "no context" approach, which demonstrates the superior classification performance achieved by using context. In our particular application, it significantly reduces false alarm rate and thus greatly reduces the cost due to expensive clinical tests. • Author for correspondence. Elevated white blood cell counts and risk of metabolic syndrome: a dose-response meta-analysis

Background and Aim: Elevated white blood cell count has been a known risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Cardiometabolic diseases have some risk factors in common. Therefore, we assessed the association between elevated white blood cell counts and risk of metabolic syndrome using dose-response meta-analysis method. Materials & Methods: We searched for observational studies including white ...

Evaluation of total and differential white blood cell counts in workers exposed to lead

Introduction: Lead is a toxic heavy metal that has adverse health effects on blood parameters. About 80% of lead produced is used in batteries, especially vehicle batteries. Therefore, the present study aimed to assess the hematological changes, including total and differential white blood cell (WBC) counts in battery workers exposed to lead, and compare with the non-exposed group. Materials a...

Robust image recognition by fusion of contextual information

This paper studies the fusion of contextual information in pattern recognition, with applications to biomedical image identification. In the real world there are cases where the identity of an object is ambiguous if the classification is based only on its own features. It is helpful to reduce the ambiguity by utilizing extra information, referred to as context, provided by accompanying objects....

Uremia Effect on White Blood Cell Count in Patients with Renal Failure

Introduction: It is believed that uremia causes destruction of white blood cells (WBC) and thus causes leukopenia. Therefore this study had an attempt to assess the effect of uremia on WBC count. Materials and Methods: This case control study was conducted on 120 uremic patients and 100 samples as control group. All samples were examined for determination of urea and creatinine in their seru...

Effect of carvacrol on pulmonary function tests, and total and differential white blood cell counts in healthy volunteers: A randomized clinical trial

Objective: This is the first study to evaluate the effect of carvacrol on pulmonary function tests (PFT), and total and differential white blood cell (WBC) counts in healthy volunteers. Materials and Methods: Thirty healthy volunteers were recruited based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The subjects were treated with two doses of carvacrol (1 and 2 mg/kg/day) for 1 month. Total and di...
